Our main base in South Africa is situated within a private game reserve in the KwaZulu-Natal province, an area renowned for its incredible biodiversity and iconic African wildlife. The camp itself is nestled in the bushveld, giving volunteers the chance to experience life in the reserve while being surrounded by the sights and sounds of the savannah. Everyone joining the expedition will spend time here, and it’s a great opportunity to see first-hand how conservation is managed in a working reserve. The camp is well set up and comfortable, with accommodation in safari-style tents, shaded communal areas for lectures, dining and socialising, and shared shower and toilet facilities. There is also a small area for data entry, equipped with reference materials and laptops for data entry. As the central base of operations, the camp is always busy with science teams heading out on surveys and returning with new findings, giving it a strong research and education atmosphere.
