Tourém is is a small, rural village at the Mourela Plateau affording outstanding opportunities to carry out surveys across habitat types while learning more about traditional life in Portugal. The camp is located in the buffer zone of the Peneda Gerês National Park; the only national park in Portugal. This park is home to a diverse range of fauna, including charismatic species such as the Iberian ibex, Iberian wolf, a range of raptors and endemic herpetofauna. The area is well known for its traditional agricultural and herding practices which have been key to its ecological success and are likely to be an integral part of future management strategies.
