Mission Beach is made up of four separate towns spread across a 14km stretch of the quiet Cassowary Coast. The area is flanked on one side by the UNESCO Wet Tropics World Heritage area, and on the other side is the closest access point to the Great Barrier Reef on mainland Australia. Despite this, it is a relatively quiet and uncrowded area of the reef. The area is also known for having one of the largest populations of the endangered cassowary in Australia.
