Who's who at Operation Wallacea South Africa
Director of
Operations - Peter Herbst PADI course director Peter Herbst (BigB), has been involved with Opwall in Mozambique since 2008 as sub-contractor and diving coordinator. His passion is all to do with diving - underwater photography, cave diving, deep diving, teaching diving or just plain diving! BigB has his own successful diving school in South Africa and is one of the top trainers in the country. He has logged in excess of 2000 dives all over the world – including Ice diving in Denmark and cave diving in Florida. He has many years of experience in teaching divers and managing large groups of people in exotic locations. He loves the bush, the ocean and needs to lose weight!
Project
Coordinator - Albé Bosman
Albé Bosman is an experienced research and field assistant and is
currently enrolled at the University of Pretoria where he is
finishing his MSc degree in zoology. He has worked on numerous
projects specifically aimed at climate change monitoring across
South Africa and Mozambique. His current masters project focuses
on conservation planning and monitoring, which aims to develop a
pragmatic approach in identifying species and ecosystem indicators
for assessing the severity of the effects of climate change.
Albé is interested in environmental assessment, protected area
monitoring and management as well as biodiversity conservation. Albé
believes in investing his formal qualifications, personal potential,
experience and enthusiasm into projects that he believes will have a
positive impact and make a difference in the lives of people and the
environment of Africa.
He has already attended two Opwall research seasons (Mozambique 2010
and 2011), where he contributed as a PADI dive master and a reef
ecologist.
Lizl Stegmann is a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer that works at Reef Divers in Pretoria, South Africa. After finishing school, Lizl followed her other passion, photography, by working in a photo lab as a photo editing technician. She then travelled abroad for 2 years to the Caribbean, Europe, the Med as well as the Americas, taking pictures… After achieving her Instructor rating, she started working full time in the diving industry. Lizl has trained an average of more than a 100 students per year constantly since she started teaching scuba. She is also an Underwater Naturalist, Fish ID, Coral AWARE and Underwater Photography Instructor. She has a great passion for nature, (both above and underwater), dogs, travelling, meeting new people and red wine…She did her first trip with OpWall in 2010 and is now part and parcel of team OpWall in South Africa…someone HAS to do the admin…
